Purchasing Equipment

Most equipment that you will purchase for woodturning will be awfully heavy, whether it be a bandsaw, lathe, or chainsaw, and because of that, shipping prices can be outrageous. Depending on the brand of tool you are looking to get, you may be able to purchase it in-store at local suppliers, but oftentimes, you will find it difficult to get some of this specialized machinery in stores near you. Instead, a good alternative is buying used equipment from online marketplaces such as Craigslist, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace. Heavy machinery is built to last, and especially when it comes to lathes and bandsaws, they do not degrade much, so buying used is a good alternative if it means being much more convenient for picking up. Discounted prices on used vintage machinery are common on marketplaces as I mentioned above, but those marketplaces are not the place to go if you are looking for a deal on some more modern/recent equipment. However, this is a generalization, so exceptions can be found.
